Things to Consider After Purchasing a Water Tank
Santaş water tanks are designed and manufactured with appropriate molds to provide you with long and trouble-free service. Although our tanks are extremely durable, improper use and installation may cause damage to the tank, fittings and accessories. Failure to follow the instructions for use and installation will void the 2-year warranty period. At the time of delivery, immediately inspect your tank for defects or damage. Your warehouses are delivered to you in a complete and trouble-free manner to be notified and delivered to you with documents at the time of delivery. All defects that may occur in the following process, including transportation, are the responsibility of the customer. When unloading your warehouse from the transportation vehicle, avoid contact with the additions on the sides of the vehicle, cutting and piercing objects on the vehicle floor and sharp objects on the floor where it will land and be placed. Forklift truck blades can cause significant damage if proper precautions are not taken. Avoid dropping and transporting tanks on fittings. As far as possible, large storage tanks, i.e. 20 tons and over, should be transported with the help of a crane. Transportation and crane services are the responsibility of the customers themselves. When lowering the tank, be careful not to damage the outlet coupling. Design the bottom floor of the tank flat and level in accordance with the tank dimensions. When pouring concrete, making it with iron reinforcement will increase the strength and provide resistance. Please make sure that it is larger than the diameter of the tank. 10 tons for a 10,000 liter water tank, but if a material of a different density is to be placed, do not forget to calculate the static load by considering that the weight is more. However, your floor does not have to be round, it can also be rectangular or square. The important thing is to make sure that no edge of the tank is larger than the diameter of the water tank. If an iron grating support table or platform is to be made, the weight of the tank and the amount of water in it creates a static load on the legs of the table. For this reason, the thickness and width of the iron profile to be used should be determined correctly. In addition, either flat sheet metal of sufficient thickness or lozenge sheet metal should be screwed on the grating made so that the tank can stand on flat ground. In order to prevent movement due to falling, wind, seismic loads and accidental contact, warehouses should be belted with rope. It is the buyer’s responsibility to ensure that the platform structure is properly designed for the purpose of the tank. Do not install heavy equipment on top of the tank. Fully support the bottom of pipes and valves so that there is no external weight loading on the tank. The tanks are intended for atmospheric storage of chemicals only. Never apply vacuum or pressure to these tanks.
What do you plan to use water for?
This will vary significantly from customer to customer. Residential customers may consider using rainwater to fill their pools and irrigate their gardens; agricultural customers may use the tanks for irrigation by collecting high tonnages of water; farm owners may use them for water for washing or, with filtration, for drinking water for their animals. This provides very different tank solutions. You can contact us for alternative solutions for Santaş water tanks.
What Should You Do Before Buying a Water Tank?
The ground on which you will use your tank must be level and flat. Please note that the service life of the tank you have purchased is a factor that directly depends on the ground. It should be preferred that the ground where it is located is concrete. For this reason, it is necessary to prepare the ground before buying a water tank.
Which accessories are available on the water tank?
All our tanks are equipped with standard sized outlet tongs. However, depending on the usage and needs, inlets and outlets that may vary according to the tank can be specially prepared. There is no buoy place and buoy on our tanks. However, in line with special requests, a place is opened for placing a float. There are no ball valves or butterfly valves on our tanks. It is strongly recommended that all installation fittings and installation be carried out by an expert plumber. Santas sales team will be happy to advise you on additional accessories you may need for your special requirements.
Is Municipal or Fire Department Approval Required to Install a Water Tank?
Most local governments support water conservation and the installation of tanks. However, for works that require special project requirements for buildings such as fire water tanks, drinking water tanks, domestic water tanks, etc., the need for state approval may vary depending on the local government regions, so it will be useful to consult the relevant municipality and fire brigade authorities for approval processes.
How are Santas Water Tanks Produced?
Our tanks are produced with two different technologies. One of them is LLDPE low density imported polyethylene raw material with rotation technology and the other is HDPE high density imported polyethylene raw material with Blow Molding blow molding technology. Our warehouses are meticulously manufactured in an internationally certified production facility. They are carefully produced with raw materials and production process to overcome both hot and cold conditions (-5 °C / +60 °C) by considering the four seasons climate conditions in Turkey at the same time.
Can I Drink Water from My Water Tank?
Santaş water tanks are made of plastic approved (by the Ministry of Agriculture and Sanitary Health) for drinking water. However, tanks with open water should not be used for drinking, cooking and personal washing. It is also not recommended to use rainwater tanks for drinking. In this case, it is recommended to use filtration and water purification systems that allow you to use rainwater for human consumption. In addition, artesian well water, that is, well water that produces algae and algae due to the structure of well water, does not harm our tanks, but it is not suitable for drinking.
When Can I Use the Water in My Water Tank?
If you store rainwater or municipal water in our water tanks, you can use it whenever you want and for any purpose. If your water tank system is connected to the mains water system, it will be very useful to use your water tank to avoid water cuts at times of high population density (such as holidays and vacations) or during the renovation/repair times of water authorities.
Do You Need Any Pump, Motor, Submersible or Booster with Your Water Tank?
If you want your water in the tank to have the same pressure as the mains water, it is recommended to use a booster. When choosing a booster (the distance and height between the water tank and the place where the water will be pumped, how many meters, how much the slope is, how many floors and how many apartments the system consists of, etc.), we will be happy to share information and advice with you if you consult our Santaş sales team about the product you need.
Do You Need to Cover Your Pump or Protect It from the Sun?
Most booster manufacturers recommend protecting your pump from environmental factors to extend its working life. A protector also reduces noise. For example, if you position your booster inside our 500-liter polyethylene tanks, it will cut a lot of noise.
What is the Water Tank Warranty?
Santaş Water Tanks have a 2-year limited warranty that is valid with the instructions for use. Please note that the warranty period for vehicles is also 3 years. At the end of this period, we do not throw away the vehicles, as long as maintenance is done, they are used for many years, even more than 20 years. Santaş Water Tanks will also provide you with long-lasting use as long as the instructions for use are followed.
What kind of hose connection is recommended to the outlet fitting of your water tank?
Santaş recommends a lightweight and flexible (flexi) hose so that your water tank is not overloaded and you do not have any problems with the outlet connection over time.
Do Water Tanks and Systems Require Maintenance?
In order to prevent problems such as sediment accumulation at the bottom and pests entering your tank, it is necessary to regularly check the inlet and outlet connections and the tank cover. It is also recommended that you check and maintain your tank in case of ground collapse, landslides, warping etc. for tanks standing on the grid. After cleaning your tank once every 6 months, you can give chlorine to make it antibacterial. If it is a rainwater tank, make sure that your roof gutters are clean because there may be mud puddles and leaves under the tank due to the pollution of your water over time. In this case, temporary solutions such as strainers or permanent solutions such as filtration can be used. If you have a single-layer white (natural, transparent) color tank or if you store standing or well water for a long time, algae and algae formations can be seen in your tank over time with the effect of the sun. In such cases, you should have your water tank cleaned and then consult our Santaş sales team to ensure sun impermeability in line with our recommendations.
What is the Difference Between a Water Tank and an Industrial Tank?
Normal standard water tanks are generally used for irrigation, storage of domestic and drinking water and fire water tanks. Industrial polyethylene tanks are used in fabricated productions. Industrial chemical tanks are generally conical silo type if they are to be used in production and vertical type if they are to be used as storage tanks. The point that distinguishes polyethylene chemical tanks from water tanks is the product specific gravity, that is, its density. Water tanks are produced according to the density of water (1 g/cm3). Chemical tanks are specially produced by us according to the product density. Our standard water tanks are not designed for corrosive acidic/basic chemicals. While water tanks are usually filled manually and emptied by their own pressure, industrial tanks are filled and emptied by pumps. If you share the chemical content you will use in your process with our Santaş sales team, our relevant expert staff will determine the required tank type for you. Santaş water tanks have a standard polyethylene outlet. In line with special demands, yellow brass outlet can also be installed by paying a difference. In Santaş Industrial (Chemical) tanks, polyethylene outlet is usually installed according to demand and chemical content.
Can I Open the Warehouse Exit Size Larger?
Santaş water tanks have standard sized outlet tongs according to the relevant liter, taking into account the pressure conditions. We install the largest 2” inch outlet spout on our tanks. In this way, your tank will have a long life. However, for your requests for 2.5”, 3” and 4” outlet tongs, if you share the situation with our Santaş sales team, they will inform you in more detail.
Which Raw Material Do You Use in Your Warehouses?
As Santaş water tanks, we generally use low density (LLDPE) original polyethylene raw material in rotation technology for our polyethylene water tanks, while in some special production demands (HDPE); we use high density (HDPE) original polyethylene raw material in blow molding blow molding technology.
Is There a Problem in Contact of Santas Water Tanks with Food?
The polyethylene raw material used to produce our polyethylene water tanks is food certified. In other words, you can safely use dry foodstuffs (flour, pulses, etc.) and liquid foodstuffs (olive oil, corn oil, etc.) in your tank.
Is it normal for my tank to stretch?
Polyethylene is a flexible material by nature. It becomes more flexible as it heats up. It is normal for the polyethylene water tank produced with the original raw material to expand and contract due to hot and cold weather changes and to adapt to weather conditions. However, if you are going to keep water or chemicals at high temperatures (more than 50 °C) in the tank, we will be happy to help you to buy a tank with a higher wall thickness and a higher wall thickness in accordance with your needs, not standard, if you inform our Santaş sales team in order to ensure that you maintain your tank as a safe tank throughout its life.
What is the Maximum Temperature You Design Your Tanks to Withstand?
Polyethylene tanks are designed for a standard temperature of 23 °C. The physical properties of our storage tanks have been tested and reported to an internationally recognized standard. This means that the tank contents should not exceed 23 degrees Celsius to ensure that the original performance expectations of the tank are maintained. The water or substance you use will affect the polyethylene throughout the design life of the tank. It is also possible for them to operate at higher temperatures than the standards. Any application where the continuous use temperature is above 50 degrees Celsius is not recommended for polyethylene tanks. For such applications, you should get detailed information about our special production tanks from our Santaş sales team.
Can there be pressure in Santas Water Tanks?
Santaş water tanks have a separate pressure for all designs (each liter has a pressure according to its volume). You can also irrigate with gravity for solutions such as drip irrigation. When you increase the tank height, the tank pressure will also increase. However, please do not compare this pressure with the booster pressure. If higher pressure or flow rate is required, the booster to be selected in accordance with the required distance and height should be used.
How to Determine the Wall Thickness of Your Tanks?
Tank weight and tank wall thickness vary for each liter, tonnage and mold. The actual weight of the tank is also sometimes not a good comparison when buying a tank. Lower density polyethylene and lower grade polyethylene require thicker walls to compensate for the lower physical properties of polyethylene. More raw materials used to produce a tank does not make it a better tank. Sometimes it even causes the polyethylene to lose its flexibility, making the tank stiffer, which can cause it to break. The quality of the tank design (structure of the belts, mold pressure balance) is determined by the polyethylene raw material, the mold design and the rigid structure of the rotational mold (aluminum mold / sheet metal mold difference, perfection of the radii, even distribution of the raw material to the mold in the rotation furnace, etc.) and the ability to control it after manufacturing.
Which Chemicals Can Be Stored in Santas Tanks?
We guide you with our guide for chemicals that can be stored in polyethylene by referring to Santaş chemical resistance table. Please contact your chemical supplier and provide detailed information to our Santas sales team about the density, concentration (purity percentage) and temperature of the chemical ingredients. If there is no data for LLDPE polyethylene raw material, the closest match to LLDPE will be HDPE polyethylene raw material. Your chemical supplier will usually give you the best advice as they understand the structure and properties of their products. If you have ever purchased another brand of chemical tank and it exploded, please share this with our sales team. Real life experiences will provide much more accurate performance results than laboratory tests.
Is Ventilation Required in Water Tanks?
The return folds inside the tank cap allow some air circulation. When a mechanical pump (booster or submersible) is used to fill the tank with water, this does not typically cause excessive pressure on the tank. However, in some engine failure situations, sudden pressure or pulling can cause your tank to become unusable due to vacuuming. If you are going to keep diesel in a polyethylene tank, venting will increase the life of the tank.
Does Cold Air Damage Centash Water Tanks?
Freezing temperatures will have no effect on the polyethylene tank. However, if the water outside the tank freezes before entering the incoming pipeline, there is nothing to do in this case. We periodically perform impact tests on our tanks, but in the cold, your tank will harden a little due to its structure. It is still recommended that you make every effort to avoid impacting the tank at any temperature, especially with sharp objects and sudden impacts.
Do Polyethylene Tanks Separate at the Joints?
In fact, polyethylene tanks are produced monoblock, meaning that they are seamless and have no joints. The lines that can be seen on the outside of the product, especially in horizontal polyethylene tanks, such as the joint, are where two parts of a mold meet. However, since the product is not joined from two sides, the tank comes out of the mold as a single solid piece during the process.
Can Santas Water Tanks be Buried Underground?
It is not recommended to use our standard polyethylene tanks directly as underground tanks. Tanks specially designed for above ground use cannot be buried because the weight of the soil around the tank can cause the tank wall to collapse without you even realizing it. If you want to use your tank as an underground tank, please ask our Santaş sales team for information on how to use it.
How Many Years Will My Water Tank Last?
There are many variables that can affect the lifetime of a polyethylene tank. Factors such as the floor of the tank, the raw material of the tank, the weight of the tank, the mold structure of the tank, the UV resistance contribution of the tank against the sun, deliberate intervention to the tank from the outside, carrying the tank full, not supporting the tank outlet tong, not using a flexible hose at the tank outlet change the life of the tank. The type, concentration and temperature of the material stored in the tank are also some of the important variables. Most of Santaş Water Tanks exceed the almost limited (2 years) warranty period by 5 times. Some chemicals will have long-term effects on polyethylene. For this reason, we need to take it into special production so that you can store chemicals. Because substances such as sodium hypochlorite, hydrochloric acid, slurry, sodium hydroxide, sulfuric acid have different densities.
How to Repair a Polyethylene Water Tank?
To prolong the life of your water tank, you should place it in accordance with all instructions for use (most importantly, it should be placed on a flat concrete floor) and use it. However, despite following all the necessary rules, intentional interventions from outside (knife penetration, bullet spraying, etc.) or unwanted accidents may occur (vehicle or construction machinery such as forklifts, sudden pressurization or vacuuming in booster failures, etc.). In such cases, you should first consult the relevant place where you purchased the tank. You need to photograph and send the damaged tank images from far and close up. While it is possible to repair some tanks according to the breakage point, it is not possible for others. If your water tank is polyethylene, it can be repaired with polyethylene raw material, wick and dry hot air polyethylene welding machine and thermal welding by a specialized personnel. Polyethylene tanks cannot be glued or welded with any adhesive or tape. Other methods will only be temporary and short-term.
Warehouse Installation and Installation
The number one cause of tank failures is incorrect installation. The most important factor in tank placement is the ground. The life of your tank is directly proportional to the ground beneath it. Care should be taken to ensure that the tank outlet connections are made correctly and that the lower pipe system is installed in a way to be supported. Having flexible connections that prevent the tank from cracking at the outlet allows you to maximize the service life of your tank. Performing these installation applications by experts ensures that there are no additional fittings that can put any pressure on the tank. Damages caused by installation fittings and workmanship will cause your tank to be out of the 2-year limited warranty terms.
The outlet on your tank is loose and reverse threaded. So when you turn the necklace of the part you see outside, the inside rotates in the same direction. To prevent this, you need to fix it inside the outlet part of the tank with a hand tool such as a piece of iron or a piece of wood that will fix the teeth inside the hole, such as the back of the frog key. After this fixing, if you want to tighten the necklace, turn the necklace in the right direction, if you want to loosen and open it, turn the necklace in the left direction with the help of a wrench or hand. When installing your ball valve, please make sure that you do not loosen your outlet fitting. When tightening the tank outlet connection, make sure that the gasket does not get stuck between the outlet cavity. After tightening the outlet of your tank, make sure that you do not loosen the outlet back when installing the valve. If you do not pay attention to these situations and do not read the operating instructions on the tank, your tank may leak water or diesel oil.
What is a flexible connection?
Inlets and outlets on the tank should have a flexible connection between the tank and the installation piping system. This is important to absorb the pressurized movement and weight stress of the water, isolate pump vibration and minimize surge pressures. It is the customer’s responsibility to install suitable flexible connections between the tank and the water system. This is very important because our 2-year limited warranty is only valid if the installation has suitable flexible connections.
Are Your Water Tanks Used Indoors or Outdoors?
The amount of UV exposure depends on the duration of exposure and proximity to the sun. Some regions have very hot climates, some very cold climates and some warm climates. Tanks used in areas exposed to more intense sunlight, i.e. outdoors, will be more affected by the sun. UV rays will have a detrimental effect on the life of polyethylene tanks. For this reason, our tanks have UV additives.
Which Color Options Are There When Buying a Water Tank?
This preference is completely related to customer demand and budget. Black color polyethylene water tanks do not absorb outdoor light. Since it contains carbon black pigments, it resists UV attack for longer. However, the same features are not seen in recycled (old broken tanks or recycled with heat, that is, black color tanks produced with cheap raw materials with shortened life span) In addition, it overheats due to the fact that it attracts the sun too much. For this reason, it is generally not preferred especially in open areas.
White color polyethylene water tank consists of a single layer and since it is a natural raw material, it absorbs the sun rays, so it is generally preferred in closed areas. Blue color polyethylene water tank consists of a single layer. These tanks, which break the sun’s rays to a great extent and prevent mossing to some extent, are preferred indoors and outdoors.
Gray color polyethylene water tank is a special production and is produced depending on certain quantities. General features are like the blue tank. Except for gray color, personal / company-specific productions in all other colors are evaluated depending on the quantity.
Our double-layer polyethylene water tanks, usually produced in the form of white inside and blue outside or blue inside and white outside, enter the oven twice and bake. While a more durable product is obtained, it also becomes a warehouse that does not absorb the sun’s rays to a significant extent and odor and algae growth does not occur.
Three-layer polyethylene water tanks are generally produced as white inside, gray in the middle and blue outside or white inside, gray in the middle and white outside. However, if the desired quantities are met, support is provided for special color requests.
Four-layer polyethylene water tanks, layer colors are determined by customers and special pricing is made according to demand.
Can Polyethylene Tanks Be Painted?
It is not recommended to paint polyethylene tanks. Because the paint you will paint will not adhere permanently to the tank. When you paint polyethylene, it remains without sticking to the surface. Painting of tanks is only possible by a professional team as it involves imported special primer and then a few special application details.
Do Oxidizing Corrosive Substances Damage the Water Tank?
Oxidizing agents cause problems in recycling plastic tanks. It is an oxidizing agent known as chlorine (Sodium Hypochlorite). It has variable effects depending on its concentration, temperature and pressure, but chlorine and polyethylene are attacked by chemical bonding and affect the tank’s operating performance. Typically, the operating environment will vary with each installation. Oxidizing agents will affect the long-term performance of a tank. It is therefore very difficult for Santas to verify that a particular tank is suitable for the use of chlorine or any chemical to be stored in it unless the conditions are clearly defined.
In relation to polyethylene chemical storage tanks, chemical resistance encompasses the total effect it will have on a tank. The factors that make up the overall compatibility of a chemical with a rotation tank can be summarized as (1) chemical content, (2) density and concentration ratio (3) temperature.
These factors can render a tank unserviceable. In general, polyethylene is the best form of plastics available. Few chemicals react with polyethylene, and even if they do, corrosion is relatively slow compared to others. Therefore, increasing the tank kilograms and increasing the wall thickness will be beneficial for long-lasting use. For more information, please get support from Santaş water tanks representative.
Because chemical tanks are tanks that need to be treated sensitively. For example, when you suddenly mix sulfuric acid with water (exothermic reaction), a reaction occurs that gives off heat. To prevent this, it is very important to get accurate information from the place where you buy the chemical. This will ensure that your tank can be used for many more years. In addition, in a polyethylene tank that you buy to store a chemical substance, place it in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety standards. In the applications made, a protective set wall should be built to prevent injuries to workers in case of an accident such as an explosion. In cases where a fixed concrete wall application cannot be made, for example, you purchased a 10-ton chemical tank, you can cut the top of a 15-ton polyethylene tank and consider this tank as a shield and place the 10-ton tank inside.
