Economic Importance, Homeland and Spreading Areas Garlic is a vegetable grown all over our country. Although garlic is cultivated all over our country due to its structure that can adapt well to environmental conditions, it is easily seen that the ideal production areas are the regions where the transition from sea climate to land climate. In Kastamonu, Amasya and Tokat provinces, garlic production is carried out successfully. There is no definite record of how long garlic has been cultivated in Turkey. However, there are records about garlic in the Evliya Çelebi Travel Book. It is also known that Turks used garlic before migrating from Central Asia. Many researchers have reported that the homeland of garlic is Mediterranean countries, Iran and Afghanistan. After the determination of the role of garlic in human health, studies on the odor that prevents the use of garlic have intensified, and as a result, garlic production and consumption have increased significantly. According to 1998 statistics, the amount of garlic produced in our country was reported as 26.500 tons of fresh garlic and 85.000 tons of dry garlic. In some years, a very insignificant part of the production is exported. Irrigation The plant growth period is during the peak rainfall period, so garlic can generally be grown without irrigation. In cases where irrigation is necessary, sprinkler irrigation gives the most successful results. When the plants reach a height of 30-40 cm, fertilization is completed by sprinkling the necessary potassium, potassium nitrate along with the allocated nitrogen before irrigation. After these, no action is taken until harvest.
