GILABURU PRODUCTION (GÜLEBRU) Since ancient times, this plant has been given different names by different cultures. For example, during the Seljuks and Ottomans, this plant was called ‘Gül Ebru’ under the influence of its beauty during the flowering period, and this name was later changed and pronounced as girabolu, gileburu, gilebolu, gilaburu, gilaboru, giraboğul, gili gili. When examined today, it is still adopted by the people in the Central Anatolia region as different names. Gilaburu is especially suitable for growing in Kayseri and Konya region. It can be easily produced wherever there is water. Gilaburu (Vibirnum opulus), which belongs to the Caprifoliaceae family, can grow as a hedge plant, in bushes and sometimes in steppes up to 1500 m altitude. It grows up to 2 to 4 meters in length and its fruits are used as nuts, pickles and jams. The fruits and flowers of gilaburu, whose fruit is used in the treatment of kidney, liver and bile diseases, are used as intestinal medicine in medicine and its benefits as a cough suppressant are too many to ignore. When we look at Turkey in general, it is not known that production is made. It is seen that after the importance and economic value of gilaburu, which is grown as a single plant, ornamental plant or forest tree on the edges of vineyards and gardens, has been understood in recent years, it is seen that closed gardens have started to be established. The most important point to be considered in the cultivation of Gilabur requires regular and abundant irrigation. For this reason, when establishing a garden, the most important cost is the irrigation system of the garden. For this, water tanks that can be produced in 2 or 3 layers suitable for food are recommended. Gilaburu fruit is not a fruit that needs maintenance and spraying. 50 trees can be planted in one decare area. At the end of four years, an average of 20-30 kg of product is removed from a tree. It is expected to yield between 1000 – 1500 kg from 50 trees. When examined in terms of the suitable environment for growing, it is recommended that it is a fruit that likes places with abundant yielding soil structure and regular and frequent irrigation is recommended during the ripening process. It is a fruit that needs plenty of sun in order for the crop to be of high quality and efficient. Although it is a type of tree that yields pea-sized fruit, the fact that it is a native plant allows it to be grown everywhere in Turkey. Gilabur has a bitter taste that is not very pleasant in the mouth. Gilaburu, which is used for food and healing purposes in various parts of the world, is also preferred to be used as an ornamental plant due to the beautiful appearance of its flowers and fruits. Gilaburu is a shrub-shaped dwarf tree species. Gilaburu is a plant in a continental climate with hot and dry summers and cold and snowy winters. It is mainly used as a border and ornamental plant in Europe, Turkestan, Siberia, America, North Asia and North Africa. In Turkey, it grows naturally mainly in Central Anatolia, but also in Izmit, Erzurum and Samsun provinces. The bark and fruits of Gilabur have a wide range of uses in the scientific world.
The liquid obtained by boiling the bark has internal and external uses. It is known to be good for mild asthma, high blood pressure, mumps, epileptic seizures, some heart disorders, cramps, menstrual pains, postpartum pains, sleep disorders, rheumatism and some nervous disorders. Gilaburu is peeled, dried and removed from the branches from April to August. If tincture is to be made, it should be made fresh.
