EPDM is a synthetic rubber made from Ethylene and Propylene, which are refinery products. While the properties of natural rubber (high elasticity, expansion, tensile strength, resistance to cold) cannot be practically changed, in synthetic rubber, the chemist has the opportunity to produce the rubber according to the desired use and requirements by affecting / changing the raw materials and molecular structure of the rubber, that is, the structure of the polymer. Among rubber products, the most prominent feature of EPDM Rubber compared to others is that it maintains its elasticity, tensile resistance and tensile strength even in high temperature changes that may occur; it is resistant to different weather conditions, sun rays and ozone, acids and solutions. Due to these properties; it offers an excellent waterproofing solution in building foundation and side curtain insulation, terrace and dome roofs, curtain walls, the bottom of ponds, all kinds of landscaping and garden ponds and treatment plants. Flat roof insulation with EPDM has been successfully applied in Central Europe for 25 years. After 25 years of absolute watertightness, tests on a sample of EPDM Membrane used in these structures have shown that the sample still reaches the values required by the relevant European material norm (DIN 7864). Therefore, it can be accepted that these structures, which have been sealed for 25 years without any maintenance, can be sealed for another 25 years. Advice and necessary support for the application to be made at the construction site and consultancy services in possible tenders are among the services we offer as a sales and application company. EPDM Membrane is the most suitable choice for our environmentally conscious customers who pay attention to the use of harmless materials and products that are compatible with the natural environment, which is especially important in our time. Even the material qualities of EPDM are a proof/indication of this. As it is known, all rubber products (EPDM, CSM, Butyl- and Nitrile-rubber) do not decompose and do not produce harmful substances by themselves. Even in case of fire, they do not cause significant damage to nature and the environment and do not even produce dioxide. EPDM is an environmentally friendly material because it is a long-lasting product and does not need to be renewed. Due to its lifetime use, it generally does not return to nature as garbage; it is too valuable a material to be thrown away anyway because the high heat value of rubber containing soot makes it a suitable fuel for energy production in industry. In addition, rubber is frequently recycled and reused, especially in floor coverings. With the pyrolysis method, which has been widely used in recent years, rubber can be decomposed back into its raw materials. These features prevent rubber from accumulating in nature and in this respect, it is not harmful to nature. There are generally two application options in roof and terrace insulation applications. The application is applied either by combining EPDM membrane strips on the roof or terrace or by laying EPDM Membrane, which is pre-assembled/prepared in panels, in the dimensions of the surface to be insulated. In both application options, EPDM membrane strips are glued together with thermal heat machines, thus ensuring a perfect seal. In addition, all EPDM manufacturers worldwide are constantly improving their application techniques.
The edge bands used for bonding EPDM membrane strips to each other ensure that EPDM retains all its properties in the welding places, and the material content makes it possible to weld with mobile thermal welding machines at the construction site. Sealing is guaranteed when welded with the appropriate method.
EPDM Membrane Prices
Due to the active ingredients in the EPDM membrane, especially the EPDM membrane pulp, pricing is in Euro (€ currency) foreign currency. The most important factor affecting EPDM membrane prices is the thickness of the membrane. The most preferred thicknesses of EPDM membranes are 0.50 mm, 1 mm, 1.2 mm and 1.5 mm. Please consult SANTAŞ sales representative for production in other thicknesses according to quantity and special demand.
How is EPDM Membrane Applied?
EPDM membrane insulation applications are made with semi-automatic or fully automatic welding robots with speed and temperature adjustment. If thermoplastic EPDM membrane is to be used, it can also be welded with a normal PVC membrane welding machine. Panels are joined by welding from their width and length.
Roof & Terrace Applications
Waterproofing System for Roofs on Terraces
On roofs built as terraces that are planned to be opened for use, ceramic etc. coating application alone does not provide waterproofing. Water that will leak from uninsulated surfaces creates comfort problems on the lower floors. Waterproofing under ceramic etc. coatings with elastic products that are resistant to temperature differences that terraces will be exposed to prevents such problems.
Waterproofing System for Untraveled Terrace Roofs
Water that will accumulate on the surface due to rain and snow on roofs built as terraces, which will not be opened for use, will cause comfort problems in living spaces by seeping through the slab concrete even if appropriate drainage measures are taken. Such problems can be prevented with the inverted roof detail, where thermal insulation boards are included in the system, which will also prevent the heat loss that the building will be exposed to due to the terrace roof.
Foundation & Curtain Applications
Foundation areas are exposed to pressurized or unpressurized water in the form of any kind of leakage from the ground on which it sits. Ground water that will penetrate into the foundation concrete from uninsulated areas will cause corrosion and expansion of the steel reinforcement over time and cause serious damage to the reinforced concrete. Such a problem in the foundation, which is one of the most important elements for a solid structure, significantly shortens the life of the building. In order not to face an irreversible result, it is necessary to make waterproofing under the foundation by bundling method from the outside. Foundation shear walls are exposed to leachate, temporary or permanent pressurized groundwater from the moment the soil filling is done. Drainage applications around the foundation are only effective in reducing the pressure of groundwater; the preparation of concrete with waterproofing admixtures does not provide complete waterproofing. Water that will enter the reinforced concrete from uninsulated surfaces will cause corrosion of steel reinforcement, with consequences that will shorten the life of the structure. Dampness in interior spaces also negatively affects the comfort of living. In order to prevent this, a waterproofing application to be made with the bundling method from the outside ensures that all these negativities are prevented.
Artificial Ponds & Agricultural Irrigation Ponds
In swimming and agricultural irrigation pools, reinforced concrete walls and floors alone are not capable of preventing water leakage and leakage. Special points such as water drainage holes, water inlets, windows, wall and floor joints in the concrete structure are weak in terms of impermeability. Ceramic type coating application to be made on the surfaces inside the pool does not provide waterproofing alone. Therefore, an effective insulation application resistant to water pressure should be realized.
Ornamental Pools
Geomembrane applications in ornamental pools have become more widespread today. Because ornamental pools are located in the garden of your home and should be easily replaceable whenever you want. This is not possible in reinforced concrete pools. For this reason, you can make decorative ornamental pools that are ready for use in an easy and practical way with geomembrane laying after geotextile felt application.
Fish Ponds
EPDM membrane is the only type of geomembrane used in fish farming that is certified for not harming fish.
