Pool and Pond Applications

Pool and Pond Applications

When you want to make an agricultural irrigation pond, irrigation canal or irrigation pond, you will research and see that it can no longer hold water because of the cracking and water leakage problems of reinforced concrete pools. For this reason, you can see that the geomembrane coatings, which are accepted by the State Hydraulic Works and have been focusing on its implementation for about 10-12 years, give the best results in water retention. After making a decision in this direction, geological and geotechnical investigations of the application area should be examined on-site.

-Type of soil (soil, resentment, rock, loam)

-Soil structure

-Presence of voids (calcareous rock or soils)

-Height and variability of groundwater level

-Presence of gases in the soil (organic substances)

-Differential seating risk (such as volcanic soil, backfilling)

-Internal erosion risk (karst soil, landfills)

In any case, the ground mechanics must be followed in order to obtain a solid and stable base and consequently durable waterproofing. In this way;

-Agricultural irrigation pools,

-Aquafarm,

-Irrigation canals,

-Decorative ornamental pools,

-Fire pools,

-Artificial pond applications are covered with geomembrane.

Geomembrane preference is determined as a result of life, functionality, quality and economic evaluations. The characteristics of each membrane type are different. In other words, the elongation flexing coefficient, its response to hot and cold changes, UV resistance, compressive strength, chemical resistance and costs are all different. Varieties that you can use in geomembrane selection are homogeneous PVC geomembrane, reinforced PVC geomembrane, EPDM geomembrane, HDPE geomembrane.They all can be used for water retention.

Application Site Preparation;

After the improvement of the area where the application will be made in accordance with all kinds of ground inspection and necessary improvement methods, excavation is made according to the desired project.The base and lateral incline of slope dimensions that will be formed during the excavation should be selected taking into account the project and application. The bottom slope is preferred between 2% and 5% in order to assist the drainage (gas-water) systems and make pond maintenance easier. Lateral slope should be maximum 50% for the works to be done during the application. Your pool or pond should be bevelled; it is important both to prevent possible landslides, collapse(with the effect of precipitation, the soil will become more unstable and will want to flow) and for the catchment in more tonnage. Sharp stones, iron particles, etc. that can damage the membrane should not be on the floor.

If you already have a reinforced concrete pool and there is water leakage due to cracks, you can proceed by starting from the geotextile felt application.

Geotextile Fely Application;

After making the necessary preparations for the Pool & Pond, a geotextile felt with a weight suitable for the characteristics and structure of the soil is selected. Geotextile felt should not be less than 250 g / m2. Geotextile laying is completed by overlapping the geotextile felt.In case of need geotextile felt can also be sewn. After the geotextile felt application, geomembrane laying can be started.

Geomembrane Application;

Geomembranes are brought to the application area in coils. In accordance with the pool project, the wings are superimposed (minimum 35mm-50mm) and welded with a thermal automatic welding robot. All resources made are specially controlled.

Locking of the Geomembrane;

It is made in order to prevent the membrane laid down on the pool & pond surface from moving downwards with water pressure. At the upper level of the pond set; The locking channel, through which the geomembrane will pass, opens along the perimeter of the pond. The channel, through which a geomembrane is passed, is closed by filling back (filling the sacks with soil or gravel) to create pressure on the geomembrane. The geomembrane is locked due to the pressure caused by the weight of the backfill on it.

Protection of Geomembrane;

In order for the applications to be long-lasting, it is necessary to take protective and preventive measures against external mechanical effects. These factors are mainly;

-Human Factor:Hand-line fishing, swimming desire,drinking water etc.

 -Animal Factor: Animals enter the pond for water need especially in hot weathers .

It has become legally imperative to cover people and wild animals with a wire fence to prevent them from entering the pond area. (It is forbidden in accordance with the 66th article of the Provincial Administration Law No. 5442 and the 32nd article of the Misdemeanors Law No. 5326.)

-Nature Factor: Landslide, excessive wind etc. can be listed. Precautions should be taken against these effects should be taken.

In order not to damage the membrane application on the surface of the pond, the rock pieces breaking from the slope can be applied on the edge of the embankment, which can be applied to the energy breaker set (gabion).

If your pool or pond will be empty for a while; The geomembrane on the empty pond surface can be swollen and torn by the effect of wind. Sandbags are prepared to prevent this effect. Sand bags prepared to be placed on the pond surface to be emptied are placed at the upper level of the pond at certain intervals.

Conclusion and Evaluation;

We make pool and pond applications using all geomembranes. However, EPDM membrane waterproofing material is the longest lasting material that has the highest elasticity in geomembranes and provides the best resistance against climatic conditions and temperature changes. EPDM geomembrane provides waterproofing for a long time without any maintenance.
